Taliban spokesperson Mullah Zaief declines Pakistan’s offer
Islamabad: Daily Jasarat, January 28, 2010. "If Pakistan tries to act on behalf of the US and arrange negotiations between the Taliban and Afghan President Hamid Karzai, it will only create more problems," former Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan Mullah Abd-al-Salam Zaief said. Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Abdul Basit had already admitted that the Pakistan government is seriously seeking to reach out to reconcilable Taliban leaders.
War is the only option: Gen Hamid Gul
Islamabad: Daily Ausaf, January 25, 2010. Former ISI Chief General Hamid Gul said the Indus Water Treaty with India was signed by Field Marshal General Ayub to retain his hold on power, due to which Pakistan signed the water sharing deal on unequal terms. He accused India of using coercive tactics and stopping the flow of water to Pakistan. Uzma Gul, the General?s daughter, also accused India of building 82 water storage dams. Gen Gul concluded that the only option to resolve the water crisis was to wage war with India.
’Go America Go’ will lead to ’real freedom’: Munawwar
Karachi: Daily Khabrain, January 24, 2010. "Pakistan is a Muslim country with 87 percent of the people following Islam. Pakistanis strongly dislike America and won?t be dictated be the US anymore. We want full self-determination," said Jamaat-i-Islami chief Munawwar Hussein. He said that western culture was on the decline in Pakistan as people have realized that capitalism does not solve poverty and hunger.
Munawwar said that America does not carry the support of any country, even its allies in Europe recently demonstrated against the US during the G-8 conference. He concluded, "America supports India?s interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs. Indian intelligence agency RAW is planning to highjack PIA?s aircraft to Kandahar in order to highlight the Balochistan issue."
Fear of becoming Somalia
Lahore: Daily Jasarat (Business), January 24, 2010. .. If the government does not take measures to control poverty, Pakistan will soon turn into Somalia. Government officials, however, assured that those responsible for the losses suffered by PIA, Steel Mill, PTCL, and KESC would be held accountable. Pakistan Steel Mill was shut down due to the unpaid liability of Rs. 2200 crore. Pakistan Railway has also declared loses worth Rs. 6500 crore . More than 16000 laborers on daily wages have been jobless for the past five months.
The failure of London Afghan Conference
Islamabad: Daily Ausaf, January 27, 2010... The London conference on Afghanistan, attended by more than 60 countries has been a failure. After declaring the new Afghan strategy of deploying more than 30000 NATO forces, America was preparing to increase India’s role in Afghanistan, but Pakistan has successfully thwarted attempts at Indian infiltrations in the geographical region of Afpak-Iran. It has earlier declared that Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey will not allow their territories to be used for subversive activities against the others.
Osama’s mail to Obama
Islamabad: Daily Jasarat, January 30, 2010... Al-Qaeda Chief Osama bin Laden accepted responsibility of the failed attack on a US passenger aircraft on December 25, 2009 and has ordered more attacks against America. He confirmed the news that had sent a mail to US President Barack Obama, accusing industrial countries of exploiting poor countries and being the major cause of global warming.
